2015 was quite an exciting year for me. I officially launched ChicvilleUSA, travelled near and far, and hosted some amazing gatherings. Here are some of my favorite moments from 2015!
I traveled across the USA, to the Caribbean, to Europe on multiple occasions and finished up with a trip to South America in 2015. Check out my travel section to see all of my trips. Here, I want to highlight my five favorite getaways of 2015.
We started off 2015 in the beautiful country of Iceland. The untouched raw beauty of this place is incredible (you can read about my adventures here, here, and here). I highly recommend going in the winter; the landscape transforms into a winter playground. You can trek on glaciers, go explore ice caves, and soak in the Blue Lagoon as snow gently falls around you! If you haven’t been to Iceland yet, it is one you should be putting on your travel list ASAP!
Cat Cay Bahamas:
After playing in the snow in Iceland, we were in much need of some warm sun and white sandy beaches (find out more here and here). Cat Cay Bahamas is a beautiful little island tucked away in the turquoise waters near Nassau. We stayed at the cutest resort nestled along a stretch of pristine beach. The thing I loved most about this place was there was no tv’s in the rooms you could truly disconnect and relax.
Our next stop was one of my favorite cities in the world, Paris. We were celebrating my fathers 70th birthday! Each morning we would fill ourselves with warm buttery croissants and coffee at an outdoor cafe while people watching (find out all about it here, here, and here). Then we would explore the city of lights. We stayed at Le Royal Monceau (read about it here), it was magnificent!
After living on the West Coast for so long, I couldn’t believe I had never visited Washington! I finally decided to check that one off my travel list this summer. I some how got insanely lucky with blue skies the whole time I was there! Exploring downtown Seattle was a wonderful sensory overload (check out my itinerary here).
South America: (Posts coming soon!)
I spent over three weeks in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil in November. I’ve been busy going through my photos and writing posts to share with you in the next few weeks. For now, here is a sneak peak: the Base of the Torres in Torres Del Paine National Park in Chile.
As anyone who has followed ChicvilleUSA knows, I love to entertain. Probably my favorite part of entertaining is transforming my table to match the theme of the dinner. Here are my three favorite tablescapes!
My Norwegian friends Camilla and Andre (Check out Purpose and Pepper here) were missing Norway and so I decided to cook them a traditional Norwegian meal featuring meatballs, lefse, and krumkake. The table was made to look like a Norwegian forest by incorporating driftwood, moss, lamb furs, and an Elk antler into my tablescape.
For a a five-course Italian dinner I co-hosted, I wanted our guests to feel like they were in Tuscany. I invoked a rustic old world charm by using worn candelabras, grapevine chargers, mismatched plates, and a lemon leaf runner down the middle of the table.
This past fall I officially launched the ChicvilleDC dinner series with my two good friends Lacey (@laceperspective) and Carla (@spicycandydc). The goal of the ChicvilleDC dinner series is to bring the brightest and most creative people in DC together in one place. Since we can’t fit everyone at one dinner, we created a four dinner per year series with seasonal themes. Our first theme was Fall. I used elements from Fall like leaves and pumpkins and turned them into something chic by transforming everything into silver, copper, or gold. A big thanks to @westelmdc for their sponsorship.
Thanks to everyone who has followed me along this journey over the past year. I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store for me.
Happy New Years,
