It is that time of year again when everyone dresses to the nines in all white and converges on a secret location to dine al fresco, if you haven’t experienced Diner En Blanc you are missing out (you can read about last years experience here)! This years location in DC was AMAZING we dined and danced beside the Lincoln Memorial.
Here is the basics if you don’t know about Diner En Blanc. First everything must be white; tables, chairs, clothes, decorations…..EVERYTHING! Diner En Blanc is a pop up dinner where the location is kept secret until approximately an hour before it begins. You will dine alfresco in a gorgeous location; there are multiple locations all around the US but it first started in Paris.
You must bring a table, chairs, your own plates, glasses etc. and table decor, some people go all out with their tablescapes but I like to keep it simple because remember you have to lug all this crap around with you! For dinner most people bring charcuterie boards, sandwiches, or salads, again keep it simple.
As you begin setting up live jazz music permeates the air and sets the mood for the evening. You begin with wine and enjoy talking to your friends around you. Then suddenly a sea of white napkins begin whirling in the air which signifies dinner has officially begun!
Just as the last light of dusk begins to fade everyone is handed a sparkler and the entire mass of 3000 people light up the night and begin dancing as the dj starts spinning. You dance the night away without a care in the world! This is truly a magical experience and I highly suggest trying it at least once! You can find out more information here, hope to see you there next year!
