It is that time of year again when we find our homes filled to the brim with the people that matter most to us as we celebrate the holidays. Wow your guests this year with a holiday table that will leave them singing songs of exaltation and calling you the hostess with the mostess with these simple tips!
The first step in creating your perfect tablescape is to pick a color scheme. If you are looking for a bit more of a modern feel, try mixing metallics with cream or try an alternative take on the traditional red and green by picking EITHER red OR green and repeating different tones of the color with pops of silver or gold.
Start with a show stopping tablecloth. This does not have to break the bank; think outside the box and look around your house to repurpose items. Here I used a Moroccan wedding blanket that sits on my bed as a tablecloth. Or maybe try faux firs for a warm and cozy feel (and the best part is faux firs are machine washable when your guests spill on them).
Chargers: don’t be afraid to layer two or three together. Layering adds depth and texture to your table.
Plates and glasses: don’t be afraid to pattern mix. There is no reason you have to be “matchy matchy”, your guess will probably love this playful element. Try mixing different glasses together and giving the head of the table an extra special touch with different salad plates and champagne flutes than the rest of the guests.
Napkins: Keep the folding simple and try tuck them under the salad plate with a simple modern fold.
Candles: my favorite part!! Make your table dramatic with a series of different candleholders. With the holidays, the more drama the better so go for taller candleholders.
Table Runner: skip the traditional table runner and use christmas ornaments, live flowers, flocked greenery, or even faux snow instead!
Takeaway gift: tis the season for giving, so place a takeaway gift on each place setting that doubles as decor! I love these beautiful star burst ornaments from West Elm, but you could do anything, the possibilities are endless. Maybe a personalized recipe from one of the signature dishes you served that evening or a hot spiced coco kit.
If you follow these tips, your guest will sure to be begging you to be put on the guest list for next year’s festivities! Happy Holidays!
