Our vision for the Chicville DC dinners is to bring the best of the best creatives DC has to offer together in one space for an intimate affair. Ok, so maybe we can’t get all the incredibly talented people in DC to sit down at just ONE dinner, especially not in my apartment, so this is just the first installment of a four dinner a year series.
As with ANY party, and the first ChicvilleDC dinner was no exception, the first thing that needs to be established was our theme. With four dinners per year and four seasons, we decided for a seasonal theme. For our first Fall dinner, we were inspired by the golden hues and hearty tastes that Fall brings into our homes as the city begins to get the first bits of chill in the air.
The entire event was built around a gold, copper, and silver color scheme. We strung together and spray painted 500 leaves in copper golden tones to hang over the table and really set the tone for our Fall tablescape. Then we spray painted pumpkins and gourds gold and embellished them with over a 1000 silver thumb tacks!
Even though we wanted glam and over the top, we still wanted it to feel rustic so we layered in birch bark chargers with hand hewn looking plates and copper glasses. West Elm DC was AMAZING and sponsored the event. They provided the finishing touches like this amazing flatware, that added just the right amount of glam and rustic-chic feel we were going for.
As for the menu, that was the easy part: a southern Thanksgiving feast, of course. Everything was made from scratch by yours truly just as my Momma taught me! Hearty homemade buttermilk biscuit and corn bread stuffing, three cheese mac and cheese with buttery panko topping, and cranberry sauce flavored with fresh orange zest and port were just a few of the mouthwatering dishes. And many thanks to @thediningtraveler for the beautiful carrot cake!
Lacey, Carlis, and myself would like to thank everyone for making the first installment of the ChicvilleDC dinner series such a hit! We look forward to the Winter dinner coming in January 2016.
